I don’t know if it’s the same for everybody but every time I do a task or a project I haven’t done for a long time, I have to relearn the steps. Bike touring is no different.
In the case of bike touring, it has to do with pacing, zenning it out. You train your mind to be patient, tolerant and you find ways to calm it down because it can be daunting sometimes.
If there was anything I retained from high school physics it was this one metaphor about how it is possible to stop a comet with a feather. The answer is you have to remove time as a criteria. In other words, given time you can accomplish anything.
Another was how can you eat a ton of cheese? One bite at a time. In other words, you can break down any large task into smaller “bite sizes”. And that’s how it goes with bike touring. You can go around the world and climb “impossible” hills, one pedal stroke at a time.
